Ethics Code

Fairness

I will always strive to report all stories fairly, completely and accurately. This means I will be objective in my reporting and writing, and present only the opinions of multiple sources on both sides of an issue.

I will also avoid conflicts of interests in my reporting. Throughout my career as a journalist, I will also avoid affiliating with organizations that may threaten by objectivity on issues.

Honesty

In the internet and digital age, journalists are able to find an a vast amount of information online. However, I will always strive to find the most accurate information and diverse points of view through public records and experts on the issues I write. I will devote the time that is necessary to sifting through information until I find accurate facts and protrayals to present to the public.

Though some facts may be unpopular or controversial, I will present information to the public so that they may read facts and create their own opinions on a subject.

Service

I understand that I will always be a public servant, devoted to providing information and stories the public needs so they may start a conversation in their communities.

I understand I have tremendous power as a journalist to present the public--privileged or underprivileged, educated or uneducated, impowered or underlooked--with a voice and an avenue for communication. I will also be available and open to communicate with the public and sources to see what information they feel they need.

I will also listen to suggestions on how I can serve the public better through improvements to my reporting and writing.
