Homeless in Greene County

The cities in Greene County are often perceived as sleepy towns nestled amid cornfields where there’s little hardship and more boredom.

 

In reality, two siblings, 5 and 10, were sleeping on front porches around Jefferson, drifting from home to home every night.

A trip through time with Helen Nelson

Jefferson resident Helen Nelson has lived through a lot of history — more than 10 decades’ worth — and even after her 104th birthday last month, Nelson can recall the stories of her life with a laugh and a joke.

Winner of death march puts experience in perspective

Before winning the Bataan Memorial Death March, Zach Graham, senior in anthropology and a member of ROTC, listened to a military-style roll call. It was not his name being called.

 

Graham listened to the names of the 10 survivors of the original Bataan March being called off, then a moment of silence for the other survivors that recently passed away. [Read more]

Coach off the court

Jeff Cesler has been coaching players through their academic careers longer than most of today’s student-athletes have been alive.

 

Ces, as his advisees call him, has worked at the Office of Student-Athlete Development since 1994.
